Fix: Minecraft Won't Launch After Pressing Play

Step 1: Repair or Reset the Launcher

1. Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Minecraft Launcher → Advanced options.
2. Click Repair, then test.
3. If needed, click Reset.

Step 2: Run as Administrator

Right-click Minecraft Launcher → Run as administrator. Test Play again. Also ensure your user has full control of the .minecraft folder.

Step 3: Delete launcher_profiles.json

1. Press Win+R, type %appdata%\.minecraft, press Enter.
2. Delete launcher_profiles.json (not your saves folder).
3. Restart launcher and sign in: profiles regenerate.

Step 4: Update GPU Drivers

Outdated graphics drivers cause silent launch failures. Update NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel drivers from the manufacturer's website. In Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics, set Minecraft to use your high-performance GPU.

Step 5: Check Mods (Forge/Fabric)

One incompatible mod can block launch entirely:

• Temporarily move all files from mods folder.
• Launch vanilla installation.
• Add mods back one at a time to find the culprit.

Step 6: Delete Runtime and Versions (Last Resort)

In %appdata%\.minecraft, delete runtime and versions folders. The launcher re-downloads them on next Play: may take time but fixes corrupted files.

Step 7: Clean Reinstall (Bedrock on Windows)

1. Uninstall Minecraft Launcher from Settings.
2. Delete %appdata%\.minecraft runtime/versions if Java issue persists.
3. Delete %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftLauncher_8wekyb3d8bbwe if exists.
4. Reinstall from Microsoft Store.

Step 8: Install Media Feature Pack (Windows N)

Windows N editions need the Media Feature Pack for some Store games. Install via Optional Features or Microsoft download.
