Fix: Minecraft Launcher Crashes on Sign-In
Crashes during login usually involve corrupted Store app data, conflicting Microsoft accounts, or broken Xbox authentication services.
Step 1: Update Everything
- Windows Update: install all pending updates
- Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates
- Update Xbox app and Gaming Services specifically
Step 2: Run Store Apps Troubleshooter
Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Store Apps → Run.
Step 3: Sign Out of All Microsoft Apps
- Sign out of Minecraft Launcher, Xbox app, and Microsoft Store.
- Open Task Manager: end any Minecraft or Xbox processes.
- Restart your PC.
- Sign into Microsoft Store first, then Xbox app, then launcher.
Step 4: Repair and Reset Launcher
Settings → Apps → Minecraft Launcher → Advanced options → Repair, then Reset if needed.
Step 5: Reinstall Gaming Services
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
Step 6: Clean Reinstall
- Uninstall Minecraft Launcher.
- Delete
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftLauncher_8wekyb3d8bbwe - Reinstall from Microsoft Store.
Step 7: Check for Conflicting Software
Overlay software (Discord overlay, RTSS, some RGB utilities) can crash Store apps at login. Disable overlays temporarily and test.
